Charter - direct flights
Direct flights to Tenerife are mainly available from October to April, when the Canary Islands experience their busiest tourist season. During this period, Tenerife is also particularly popular with travellers from the Baltic states.
At the beginning and end of the season, charter flights often offer attractive one-way fares, making it convenient to combine different flight options. For example, you may find a cheaper direct flight from Riga to Tenerife and use a connecting flight for the return journey — or vice versa. A one-way charter flight with checked baggage included can cost from around €160, although such offers are usually available in very limited quantities — often just 1–3 tickets.
Charter flight prices for a return journey typically range from €200 to €600, with checked baggage already included in the price. As a result, the lower-priced charter fares can often be a good alternative to scheduled flights, especially for travellers who prefer to fly direct.
Of course, it is difficult for the Baltic market to compete with the UK, where competition between airlines is much stronger and, as a result, direct flight prices are often significantly lower. However, it is important to keep in mind that the distance from Riga is greater and the number of available flights is more limited, which also tends to result in higher fares.
Flights with Connections
If you are looking for the cheapest flights to Tenerife, the best option is usually to combine flights yourself, ideally around 2–3 months before your trip. This can allow you to travel significantly cheaper than with charter flights.
There are also two main ways to do this: travel with low-cost airlines and take the risk of arranging separate connecting flights yourself, or pay a little more and fly with traditional airlines such as Finnair and others.
Budget Flights
The cheapest flights to Tenerife can sometimes be found at exceptionally low prices — from around €80 return with hand luggage. These fares are not available very often and usually involve longer waiting times between flights.
More commonly, return fares are around €120–€150 per person. If the connections and waiting times are reasonable, a price of €180–€200 return can still be considered a good option and is often available on various travel dates.
Christmas is an exception, as both hotel and flight prices tend to be significantly higher during this period and budget options are much more limited.
Nearby Airports
For travellers considering departing from or returning to one of the nearby airports, it can be useful to combine flights via Kaunas, Vilnius or Tallinn.
You can drive to one of these airports, leave your car there and continue your journey from that airport. This can be a particularly good option for larger groups of travellers, as the cost of getting to the airport can then be shared between more people, significantly reducing the transport cost per person.
